Laura Friedlander, Piano Ensemble, is a native of Wichita, Kansas. Mrs. Friedlander attended DePauw University receiving a Bachelor of Music/Business degree. She also holds a Master of Music in Performance from the University of North Carolina-Greensboro.
As a teacher for the Guilford County Schools in North Carolina, she taught band, orchestra, jazz band, and marching band at the middle school through high school levels. She conducted for the UNCG Summer Music Camp for several years and served as an adjudicator and clinician at various band events. Mrs. Friedlander has held positions as a bassoon player with the Terre Haute Symphony, the Wichita Symphony, the Salisbury Symphony, toured with the North Carolina Symphony, and guest performed with many others.
While not in the classroom, Mrs. Friedlander performed in orchestra pits as a reed specialist throughout North Carolina and Virginia for groups such as the Broadway Preview Series, the High Point Ballet Company, and the Piedmont Music Theatre. She has had students place in piano categories in the Silver State Music Competition, as well as State Winners, Regional Winners and National Finalist in the National Federation of Music Clubs Junior Composers.
There are many local piano events where Mrs. Friedlander serves as an adjudicator. Currently, Mrs. Friedlander is the owner of Lessons by Laura LLC where she teaches students piano, flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone and bassoon, as well as music theory and composition. As Director of Bands for the Southern Nevada Home School Performing Arts, she conducts various levels of bands and jazz band. She is a member of the National Association for Music Education and, as an active member of the Las Vegas Music Teachers Association, she serves as Treasurer.
